INTACT AMERICA DELIVERS PETITION TO CDC WITH MORE THAN 25,000 SIGNATURES

Last month, Georganne Chapin, Executive Director of Intact America, spoke with Dr. Peter Kilmarx and several other officials from the Centers for Disease Control by telephone about Intact America’s unequivocal opposition to any recommendation by the CDC in favor of neonatal circumcision. She also told the CDC officials that Intact America had garnered more than 25,000 signatures to that effect.

On Thursday, May 6, Intact America sent a petition containing 25,278 signatures to the CDC’s headquarters in Atlanta. The delivery was the result of a year-long effort on the part of the Intact America staff, as well as hundreds of intactivists who spread the word among friends, family, and the Internet via blogs and social networking sites.

Congratulations to the entire intactivist community for coming together to help protect our baby boys, and making our voice heard on a national level! We’ll keep you posted on the how the CDC responds.

But our efforts don’t end there. Late last month, the American Academy of Pediatrics issued a new policy statement calling for a lift of the Federal ban outlawing all forms of female genital mutilation (“FGM”) in the United States. Intact America is outraged by this affront to 30 years of global efforts to stop female genital cutting, and we’re asking you to send a letter to the AAP demanding that they retract their statement immediately and leave our baby girls alone.

For more information about this issue, please read our official response to the AAP’s statement, as well as the press release issued May 6.
