Peggy O'Mara, Publisher of Mothering Magazine, Signs On to Intact America's Board of Advocates
Intact America is honored to announce that Peggy O’Mara, publisher, editor, and owner of Mothering magazine, has joined the Board of Advocates of Intact America. With Mothering available in more than 65 countries, Peggy has gained international celebrity. She is also the author of two books: Having a Baby Naturally: The Mothering Magazine Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth and Natural Family Living: The Mothering Magazine Guide to Parenting.
A dynamic speaker, Peggy has lectured and conducted workshops in conjunction with organizations such as the Omega Institute, Esalen, La Leche League International, and Bioneers. She has appeared on numerous television and radio programs and has been featured in national publications including The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Mother Earth News, and Utne Reader.
Mothering celebrates the experience of parenthood as worthy of one's best efforts and fosters awareness of the immense importance and value of parenthood and family life in the development of the full human potential.
As a readers' magazine, it recognizes parents as the experts and wishes to provide truly helpful information upon which parents can base informed choices. Each issue contains philosophical inspiration and practical advice about family living, with diverse topics covering everything from organic foods and breastfeeding to midwifery, home birth, and circumcision. Says Peggy, "It is a simple fact that routine medical circumcision of infants is unnecessary and is, in fact, abusive. We do not have the right as parents to mutilate our child's body. Mothering has been publishing ground-breaking circumcision articles from this perspective since 1979. I'm proud to serve on the board of Intact America to help continue to see the number of circumcised infants decrease in the U.S." In "The Case Against Circumcision," one of its most-requested articles, Mothering explores why circumcision is hardly ever necessary, and how parents can empower themselves to avoid ceding to the "claims" of the billion-dollar-a-year circumcision industry. "When it comes to gentle, humane parenting and family life, Peggy is one of the most influential people in the world," said Georganne Chapin, Executive Director of Intact America. "Her unequivocal advocacy over the years regarding babies' rights to an intact body reflects her willingness to take an unpopular stand. We couldn't be more honored to have her join forces with Intact America."
Intact America's Board of Advocates consists of leaders in the arts, media, and entertainment communities who are willing to come forward and stand up for baby boys' rights to bodily integrity.
