Paul Joannides, author of the Bestselling "Guide to Getting It On!," Joins Intact America's Board of Advocates
Paul Joannides, a research psychoanalyst and blogger for Psychology Today, is one of America's preeminent voices on sexuality and sexual education. His Guide to Getting It On! (The Universe's Coolest and Most Informative Book About Sex), now in its 6th edition, is an international bestseller.
Paul, a long-time intactivist and proponent of sexual health, is honored to be the recipient of one of four Sexual Intelligence Awards for 2010, which "honor individuals and organizations which challenge the sexual fear, unrealistic expectations, and government hypocrisy that undermine love, sex, and relationships—and political freedom—today." Paul does a weekly podcast on sex for Health Providers called The Paul Report; he answers college students' questions about sex on The Pleasure Report; and he blogs regularly on his own site. He also speaks at colleges and universities, and is one of the country's most outspoken sexual education experts.
Paul's thoughts on infant circumcision are clear. Quoting from his book's "Fun with Your Foreskin" chapter, he says, "Medically speaking, routine circumcision makes about as much sense as removing a kid's eyelids or cutting out the labia of a baby girl."
Regarding his affiliation with Intact America, he says, "Time and again, intact young men have told me how thankful they are that their parents resisted the pressure from doctors to circumcise them. Given our cultural myths about circumcision, it is important that expecting parents be able to hear the other side of the circumcision story. Organizations like Intact America are to be praised for the work they are doing."
Intact America's Board of Advocates consists of leaders in the arts, media, and entertainment communities who are willing to come forward and stand up for baby boys' rights to bodily integrity.
